Information
The
National Servicemen’s Association represents the 287,000 men called up to
serve in the Navy, Army and Air Force between 1951 until 1972.
The National Serviceman’s Association was
established by the late Barry Vicary in 1987 based in Toowoomba, Queensland. In
1994 the organisation was incorporated under Queensland’s Incorporation Act
under the name, National Serviceman’s Association of Australia (Queensland)
Inc. The Association has a growing membership across all parts of Queensland and
Interstate. It is a member of the national body for the advancement of welfare
for Nashos and their dependants. The National Servicemen’s Association is
involved in extending the community knowledge of National Service.
Membership
of the Association is open to all Australian National Servicemen. Supporters may
also join. Members receive regular newsletter “Nasho News” and access to
Association events and services, memorabilia and merchandise. Reciprocity
arrangements with kindred associations also exist.
The
Association conducts or is involved in Marches, Ceremonies and Services
throughout the year. Branch members march behind the National Servicemen’s
Banners on ANZAC Day. National Servicemen’s Day is the 14th
February each year and celebrations and Memorial Services are held on the Sunday
immediately prior to this day. These marches are held in each capital city and
many major provincial centres.
Members
of the Association enjoy camaraderie and fellowship at social activities
conducted by Branches throughout the year. They still enjoy recalling the
memories.
Welfare
officers (accredited by Department of Veteran Affairs) work with members as and
when required. The Association supports the Australian Defence Force Cadets.
You will experience satisfaction from joining and becoming involved in
the National Servicemen’s Association.
