A General History of the Redlands Branch:

Redlands Branch formerly the Brisbane East and Bayside Branch was formed in 2001 with its first President being the late Bill Angus. In 2005 the branch was divided and a new Branch formed at Wynnum known as “Bayside”, while the old branch was given the new name of Redlands. We have a compliment of 125 nashos and 56 supporters average around 66 nashos and supporters to our monthly meetings. We usually have a guest speaker, while we also have regular outings covering day trips, 3 day trips, and our lady supporters have a monthly luncheon of their own. Over this time we have participated in various marches, services and assisted in working bees. Some of our members also belong to the Nasho Touring Club while some serve on the State Management Committee.

The Redlands Branch of the Association holds their general meetings on the 1st Sunday of each month from 0930 hrs to 1200 hrs noon in the Legends Bar of the Redlands RSL.  At our meetings, we usually have a guest speaker followed by departmental reports and in closing we have fellowship, finger food and refreshments.
The Branch usually has a social function each month which can include:
> Outings to the city, boat trips to the islands, bus trips to the country and wineries, a day at the races at least
   twice a year and we also attend reunions.
> NASHO News published to keep members informed.
> Annual State Conference.
We have a Welfare Officer supporting the needs of Servicemen and families. Fund raising activities during the year include ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veterans Day as well as supporting the Legacy appeal.
Attend ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veterans Day as well as the Reserve Forces Day March through the city of Brisbane each year.
The NASHO ladies supporters join us at our meetings and each month the ladies have a luncheon at a different venue. If you are a National Serviceman and served between 1951 and 1972 come along and join in the mateship we all share.

Nasho Major Events for 2011
Redland Branch

 

PROGAMME FOR 2011

 February National Serviceman’s Day Wacol 14th February
 Owing to storm damage to the Chapel at Wacol this event is being assessed for safety  and we have advice that  this event is now cancelled.  State HQ will keep us advised.

 April Esk Races  
 Supporting Breast Cancer, Saturday 16th April Great fun day for all and funds raised by  the organisers goes to Cancer Fund and no need to book just roll up on the day. Bus pick  up will at Redlands RSL at 0830 hrs for 0900 hrs departure. You can bring a picnic lunch  or buy a BBQ lunch from the CWA canteen, drinks on sale at the bar. For the punter bets  on all state races and Esk will have five races on the day. Return to Redlands RSL at  approximately 1800 hrs. Cost of entry is $10.00 at the track, bus provided free by  Redlands NSAA Branch free. We have a marquee for shade and two tables provided by  the RSL for the day, bring your own folding chair.

 ANZAC Day selling days.
 Wednesday 20th April to Saturday 23th April. Money raised provides funds for the  welfare for our members and to the community. This is major  fund raising event  and we need as many helpers as we can. The Lady Nasho supporters most welcome  again.

 May Three day bus trip. 
  This bus trip is currently being arranged, however, details of the event haven't
 been received two of the options we are seeking. Planing for this trip is up and  running and we will keep you advise of the outcome of the final dates and  programme once they are completed shortly. We are looking at dates for 24th to
 27th May so pencil these dates into your diary.

 June Bus trip to Twin Towns Services Club
 For a lunch and show. on the 29th June This popular show is called “Back to the  Tivoli”  and the cost of the package will be $31.95 per head. Bulk bookings will go  on sale on  the 1st March and not before, so we must book on that day to get in.  Redlands branch will provide the bus.

 Tatts Race Day at Eagle Farm 25th June
 A great day out and good chance for the ladies and gents to dress up. Gates open  1030hrs. Cost is $15.00 per head or if you have a pension or seniors card its free. We  will travel by train as before straight to the track. Joe Hodgson is endeavouring to obtain  40 tickets to the members stand so first in best dressed. Joe arranged this same outing  about two years ago and all who attended knows what a fun day we had. Thanks in  advance again Joe.

 July Reserve Forces Day
 Reserve Forces Day Parade will be held on the first weekend in July. The parade will  stepoff from the topof Adelaide Street in Brisbane City. Details will be available as the  time approaches of the exaxt date and time. NASHO HQ will keep us informed via

 Vietnam Day Parade August
 Thursday 18th August Vietnam Day Parade. Starting point is at Redlands Veteran  Centre and following the service join in the camaraderie downs stairs in the Legions Bar.
 Dress, uniforms and medals on the day

 September Townsville Trip.8th to 11th September
 This event is the National Service Memorial Sixtieth (60) year celebrations in Townsville.
 This major event will be updated in your NASHO News. This is a trip of a life time. Book
 early selling fast. Many of have book already at the Oaks M on Palmer Street Townsville
 phone for booking 07 4753 2900, Approx cost for two persons from the 8th to the 11th is  $540.00. Travel is by Tilt Train, Sunlander using your concession or Fly

 October Bremer River BYO Boat Cruise
 Departs Redlands RSL by bus to Brisbane River at 0800 Hrs in order to sail at 0900 hrs.
 A Great day out cruising past South Bank, the Flying Fox colony at Indooroopilly Islands,
 Loan Pine, The surburbs of Westlakes and River Hills and on to the Moggill car Ferry up
 to the Bremer River. Morning and Afternoon tea and a BBQ lunch will be provieded. Our  bus will pick us up at 1600 hrs and we expect to beback in redlands RSL about 1700 Hrs.
 This cruise is smooth sailing all the way, no need to bring sea sick pills. NASHO  members cost is $59.00 per head. More information as the time gets closer.


 November
 Melbourne cup day November 2nd Redlands RSL. Four tables have been booked and  tickets available at RSL prior to event.This event is sold out very quickly and when you
 see the food you will know why.

 Remembrance Day
 Selling Days Monday 7th, 8th , 9th and 10th of November. This is second and only major  fund raising event and we need as many helpers as we can. The Lady Nasho supporters
 most welcome again. On the 11th November we will muster for the service / Parade at
 10.30 hrs at Redland RSL Veterans Centre. Dress, Uniforms and Medals. Victoria Point  Main Shopping centre have a small service as will be run by the NASHOs and the  Training Ship Diamantina Navy Cadets at 1030 for 1100 start.

 December
 Sunday 5th December NASHO Gala Christmas party at Redlands RSL.
 General gathering starts at 1130 hrs to 1140 hrs, then the party begins. bigger and  better than last year. All you can eat smorgasbord style Chrismas luncheon hot and cold
 as you wish. More details later.
