Formation and history of the Rockhampton and Dristrict Branch On the 18th November 2000, a meeting was call inviting intrerested persons who had served as
National Servicemen during the period from 1951 to 1972 to attend a meeting at the Criterion Hotel
commencing at 7.00pm for the purpose of forming a Branch of the National Servicemen's
Association. H.Dicinoski - J.Egretz -V.Beaton - J.Williamson -G.Budd - J.Samin -N.Backhouse - J.Brown - The following were elected to the Executive Committee: President: K.Bloxsom The first General Meeting was held on the 22nd January 2001 at the Criterion Hotel. It is to be noted
that the meetings continue to be held at that location. During the meeting, retired Colonel Neville Harris was appointed to the position of Patron, a position he still holds. At the meeting held on 11th February, 2001 J Egretz resigned the position of secretary with W Sichter carring on in the position. The Rev. Fr.B Harvey accepted the position of Padre. On ANZAC DAY, 2001 the branch marched behind the Banner for the first time.

The first Annual General meeting was called on 27th August, 2001 with the following members President; K Bloxom At the meeting held on 24th September,2001 Secretary J Hannay tendered his resignation. History of the Rockhampton and District Branch 2002 The second Annual General Meeting was held on the 23rd September,2002 with the following being elected President: J Hogan Major events that mark important milestones in the progress of the Branch include the presentation of the ANSM to about Senior Presenting Officers were: Brigadier S. Graw, Wing Commander G. Krause and Lt. Col. John Phelan. Parade RSM was Mr. John Wilson. In 2002 a sub committee of the Branch was formed, using the colorful name of WAC's, Women's Auxiliary Committee. Preasident: Jan Sichter All other women who attended the meeting automatically formed the committee. This sub committee was tasked with the responsibility of supporting the Branch by assisting to raise funds and by offering

and District Branch 2005 The 2005 Annual General Meeting was held on the 27th June, 2005 with the following being elected to the Executive Committee and the General Committee positions. President: J. Hogan Note: The positions of Member's Representatives were confirmed at the meeting held on 25th July, 2005. Note: During the year J. Egretz stood down from the position of Historian. History of the Rockhampton and District Branch 2007
President: J. Hogan Dedication of the Memorial to the National Servicemen was held on 15th July, 2007 at the Botanical Gardens, Rockhampton. This service was extremely well attended as was the function that was later held at the Athelstane Bowls Club. The 42nd Battalion Royal Queensland Regiment provided the Catafalque and Flag Party and following this, the President of the Branch gave the welcoming speech and introduced Chief Superintendent Kevin Hodges, Central Police Region, who gave the address. Assistant Commissioner Ann Lewis and Mr. John Hogan unveiled the Memorial. After the unveiling, Councillor The three (3) Chaplians, The Rev. Father R. Wallace, Ex-National Servicemen's Association and Chaplin T. Parkin Gracemere R.S.L. and N.S.A.A. Combined Central, then carried out the Dedication Service which constited of the Dedication, the Blessing of the Memorial, Prayers of Remembrance, Prayers of Peace and the Lord's Prayer. Following the Wreath Laying Ceremony, Warrant Officer Class 1, Malcolm Cockburn, delivered the Requiem and Mr. B. Abraham, Secretary of Emu Park R.S.L. Sub-Branch, recited the Ode. A bugler from the Capricorn Silver Band sounded the Last Post; Piper Lester Soblusky played the Lament followed by the Rouse. The Rev. B. Harvey gave the final blessing. After the Benediction and the signing of the National Anthem, President
John Hogan proposed a vote of thanks to all involved. M.C. for the day was Mr. Jim Webb. The overall Co-ordinator

History of the Rockhampton and District Branch 2008 The 2008 Annual General Meeting was held on 25th February 2008 with the following being elected to President: J. Hogan No appointment was made in respect of the position of Auditor. C. Since the formation of the Branch, donations have been made to the following: Capricornia Helicopter Rescue Service In 2005 the Rockhampton Branch organised a successful four days State Conference. The Branch acknowledges the support received from Rockhampton City Council in the presentation of the City Flag, a wireless amplifier system and the departmental and monetary assistance in relation to the 2005 State Conference. |
